Thinking about transferring to W&M?
A transfer student is anyone who has graduated from high school, attended another college or university, and wishes to enroll in an undergraduate degree program at William & Mary. If you earned your advanced placement credit or college credit while attending high school, you are not considered a transfer student - you are an entering freshman. If you already have a bachelor's degree, you may not apply to earn another one at W&M.
Choosing W&M
One of the best ways to decide if W&M is a good fit for you is to visit campus. Transfer students are welcome at all our regularly-scheduled information sessions and tours. We also offer Tribe Transfer events: special days just for prospective transfer students to learn more about transferring to W&M.
Planning to Transfer
The Admissions Committee looks for well-rounded and rigorous college-level courses when reviewing transfer applications. To smooth your transition to William & Mary, and to improve your chances for admission, you need to carefully plan the courses you take at your current school. We offer a list of recommended courses to help with this.
Become familiar with our curriculum rules and requirements for transfer students. Some of your transfer credit may meet our COLL or proficiency requirements.
If you know what you want to major in once you're here, review the requirements for the major in our Undergraduate Catalog. Try to get as many basic requirements done as you can.
Wondering which courses will transfer into W&M? Courses will be granted W&M equivalent credit when they are close matches to courses currently offered at the university. Students should consult W&M’s Catalog and Course Descriptions to get sense of courses we offer. W&M elective credit is granted to courses that are transferable, but not currently offered at the university. Generally, lower-level general education courses in the areas of math, English, sciences, and humanities with a grade of C (2.0) or better are transferable. Remedial coursework does not transfer to William & Mary.

Special Agreements
William & Mary has special agreements with Richard Bland College and Virginia's Community College System. If you attend, or plan on attending any of those schools, be aware of your options for transferring to W&M. The admission option you choose may affect the courses you take while still at the community college.
