Staff Recognition
Diversity Champions
Each year, the Office of Diversity & Inclusion recognizes and celebrates William & Mary community members who have been nominated to receive the Diversity Champions Award for their leadership and innovation towards D&I initiatives. W&M Information Technology’s (IT) Patty Herrera Cox, director of applications administration, and Nick Artime, technology analyst, are among the recipients this year for their efforts to get the university’s Diversity & Belonging Training up-and-running.

Female IT leaders featured in Toggle Magazine
In November 2021, Berni Kenney, deputy chief information officer, and Corinne Picataggi, chief technology officer, were featured by Toggle Magazine in a story where they detailed how they balance tradition with innovation at W&M. The duo discussed the challenges of integrating technology without disturbing the charm or history of our beloved campus.
In the story, Kenney said, "Our buildings are wonderful and traditional, but we also want to give that William & Mary experience to someone in California who can’t come to Virginia. We’ve built a flexible, malleable organization to support the university. A big piece of this is the relationships, even more than the technology.”
“We used to be the service provider," Picataggi says. "People would make a request and we’d fulfill it. Now we’re a partner in the business of higher education. Very few departments can achieve their goals without our help and expertise.”
Kenney also explained that, because we are changing all the time, tech changes all the time. “We can’t rest, we can’t get complacent in how we do work and how we approach it."
