James Monroe Scholars
Program Purpose & Goals
James Monroe Scholars are the most academically distinguished undergraduates at William & Mary. Fewer than 10% of W&M undergraduates receive this prestigious designation. Monroe Scholars demonstrate intellectual depth, curiosity, concern for community, and devotion to learning for learning’s sake.
Student Experience
In their first year, admitted Monroe Scholars may choose to live in Monroe Hall with other Monroe Scholars. Centrally located on campus, Monroe Hall was newly renovated for the fall of 2024.
Learning Outcomes
The program’s mission is to support a community of scholars who demonstrate strong academic drive and pursue diverse intellectual passions through mentored research and internships. This highly motivated peer group encourages each other to continue to be exceptional students.
