Foreign Economic Policy: Theory Meets Practice
Ian Harman
Ian is a sophomore from Chicago, Illinois studying International Relations with a minor in finance. He is interested in security studies, international development, and deterrence policy. Outside of class, he is involved with the Global Research Institute as a research assistant for the TRIP Project, he conducts research with the Wargaming Institute, and is on club sailing. He enjoys finding new music, reading the news, and learning more about international relations.
Michael Martinez
Michael is a sophomore from Fairfax, VA majoring in Data Science and minoring in Business Analytics. At William & Mary, he works as a Writing Consultant, Data Science TA, and Orientation Aide, and he is involved with the Latin American Student Union and Google Developer’s Club. In his free time, he likes to go to the gym, code, watch TV shows. He also believes everyone should be a fan of Tyler the Creator, Kendrick Lamar, and Rauw Alejandro. He is excited to be a part of this experience as he explores industries where Data Science can be applied.
Anna McClellan
Anna is a sophomore from Austin, Texas with plans to major in either Government or Public Policy and minor in Public Health. Outside of class, she keeps herself busy as the Membership Director of Phi Mu, a campus tour guide, and the student representative for the Democracy Initiative. In her free time she can be found out and about exploring Colonial Williamsburg, working out at the Rec, or hanging out with friends on the Sunken Garden. She is very grateful to have the opportunity to participate in the DC Winter Seminar program and hopes to gain more experience and knowledge in international relations and economics. She also looks forward to connecting with peers and professionals in fields she hopes to pursue one day.
Peiyao Li
Peiyao Li is a sophomore studying Economics in a William Mary and St Andrews joint degree program. She is a research assistant with her St Andrews' professor to analyze the current non-performance assets. She also joined the Finance Academy and Smart Woman Securities. She like reading books and traveling in the spare time.
Quinn Loftus
Quinn is a senior studying Government and Philosophy with a focus on Middle Eastern studies. She is a member of Arabic House and loves learning about the cultures and histories of the Arab world. Her focus of study is migration theory and politics. Specifically she studies middle eastern migrant patterns and behaviors. In her free time she organizes student engagement events as Impact Committee Chair on Alma Mater Productions (AMP) and is a personal trainer at Campus Rec. She also plays upright and electric bass for Wham Bam Big Band. She is very thankful for the DCSI providing incredible opportunities and insights for her research interests.
Mark Strand
Mark is a sophomore who intends to pursue dual majors in economics and music. Hailing from Vienna, VA, Mark is involved in Greek life on campus and a dedicated member of the W&M Men's Ultimate Frisbee team. He is particularly interested in environmental policy due to his love for the outdoors. Mark is eager to learn at the Washington Center and excited to experience the nation's capital.
Brit LaFiura
Brit is from a small town in Maine called Camden, if you know where Portland or Acadia National park is he resides right smack dab in the middle of them. In his free time he enjoys to be outside, whether it’s skiing, mountain biking, golfing, or anything under the sun he really enjoys it. He has three animals, 2 cats and a dog that he loves very much. He recently has fallen in love with creating art specifically 3D art like sculptures and other things. He plans on majoring in Finance and Minoring in Data Science.
Marie Thomas-Sindeh
Marie Thomas-Sindeh is a Senior from Northern Virginia. She is majoring in International Relations with a minor in Data and Public Health. Marie is a W&M Scholar and the Student Assembly Secretary of Finance on campus. She has successfully completed a study abroad program in Argentina with a focus on human rights, an internship centered on the rights of incarcerated individuals, and the Identity, Power, and Profit seminar. In her free time, Marie enjoys dancing, traveling, and spending time with friends. She is very excited to be a part of the D.C. Winter Seminars.
Kate Conroy
Kate is a junior from New Rochelle, New York studying marketing and Hispanic Studies. She works on campus at the undergraduate business office, is the vice president of finance for her social sorority, and was an orientation aide this fall. Kate is excited to be a part of the Study in DC program as she has always hoped to spend part of her time in college in DC!
Alex Lazo
Alex Lazo is a finance major interested in investment banking and is using the DC Winter seminar program to learn more about the World Bank, Embassies, and International relations as a whole. He grew up in Fredericksburg, VA and transferred his Junior here to W&M. In his free time he plays soccer, watches Suits, and plays chess.
Brenna Gelmorine
Brenna is a sophomore from Winchester, VA majoring in Public Policy. She plans to pursue the accelerated BA/MPP program at William & Mary. Outside of academics, Brenna is Vice President of Barksdale Treble Chorus, Secretary of the W&M Young Democrats, and Social Coordinator of Nu Kappa Epsilon. She also works for Student Unions and Engagement as a Building Manager. In her spare time, Brenna can be found on Duke of Gloucester Street petting all the dogs, reading Jane Austen, and making Spotify playlists. Brenna is excited for the opportunity to explore career paths in international relations and public policy, and to connect with people who share her passion for public service.
Chloe Ausburn
Chloe Ausburn is a second-year student at William & Mary and a dedicated member of the Varsity Women's Soccer Team. Her academic pursuits include a dual major in government, with a specialization in international affairs, and Business Analytics and Data Science, with a concentration on management and organizational leadership. , Originally born and raised in Thomasville, North Carolina, Chloe enjoys a variety of interests outside of her studies, such as reading, spending quality time with friends, maintaining an active lifestyle, and exploring new dining experiences at various restaurants and cafes. She's eagerly anticipating the upcoming Foreign Economic Policy class this winter as it aligns with her passion for international affairs and economic dynamics.
Akshitha Vemuru
Akshitha is a junior studying Economics with a minor in Data Science. She is in the Joint Degree Program with W&M and the University of St Andrews. Currently, she is at St Andrews and cannot wait to be back at W&M next year! Her hobbies include playing golf and spending time with her family and close friends.
Andrew Linton
Andrew is Senior from Richmond, VA studying Finance with a concentration in Accounting. On campus he is involved in the professional business fraternity Alpha Kappa Psi, a social Fraternity Kappa Alpha Order, and new student orientation. After graduation, Andrew will be pursuing a Master of Science in Business Analytics at William & Mary.
Jordan Zainal
Jordan is a Senior from Northern Virginia studying Economics at William and Mary. In his free time Jordan loves golfing and keeping up with the newest economic trends. Jordan also has his Associates in Film and Cinema, which makes him a great chat for anything movie related.
Rachel Bartz
Rachel is a junior from California studying International Relations with a minor in Economics. She is a research fellow at the People Power Data Project at the Global Research Institute and a disinformation analyst at DisinfoLab. Rachel is also a member of the Lutheran Student Association. In her free time, she can generally be found reading classic romance novels, watching period pieces, or taking long walks in Colonial Williamsburg.
Jake Zaetta
Jake is a Senior at W&M Studying Sociology with a Chemistry Minor. I plan on one day going to Law School and have had a phenomenal experience with the W&M DC programs as last summer I was in the DCSI Program accompanied by a great internship. I am really excited to learn more about Foreign Economic Policy.
Nathan Bobbitt
Nathan Bobbitt is a senior at William & Mary currently studying economics. Nathan was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and now lives in Springfield, Virginia. This has led to a particular interest in foreign and global economics. He enjoys sports and participates in many intramurals on campus, as well as music and experiencing different cultures through food; especially when he does not have to cook it. Nathan is looking forward to the many opportunities and experiences that this program provides. He is also excited to get to know his classmates who are similarly interested in economic policy.
David Dimitri
My name is David Dimitri, and I am currently a senior studying finance and accounting at W&M. In my free time, I really enjoy being active and hanging out with my friends. I enjoy golf, fishing, basketball, football, and pretty much any sport. I'm very excited for this opportunity to study in DC and learn about Foreign Economic Policy!
