Not a Psychological Sciences Major?
The study of psychology has application in many fields, and the department encourages non-majors to sample broadly from our selection of courses.
COLL Courses
Several psychology courses to fulfill COLL Requirements. We offer both COLL 100 and COLL 150 courses every semester. The topics vary, so check out the Dynamic Schedule to see what's coming up next. Both of our introductory courses, PSYC 201, Intro. to Psychology as a Natural Science, and PSYC 202, Intro to Psychology as a Social Science, fulfill COLL 200 requirements. They are also prerequisites for most of the other PSYC courses. Taking the Intro. courses (or at least one of them) will not only take care of a couple of requirements, it will also make more of our course offerings available to you.
Complementary Courses
Many undergraduates take psychology classes to inform another class or major. Through elective courses that complement other areas of study, students can gain a wider and larger understanding of how knowledge fits together. You may be surprised at how applicable concepts of psychology are in many fields.
Sometimes, non-majors fall in love with our discipline too late to major in it, or after they've been in the work-world for a couple of years. While we're sad that you aren't one of our majors, we are happy to tell you that you don't necessarily need an undergraduate degree in psychology in order to go to graduate school for it.
The Department also participates in an interdisciplinary program. The Neuroscience Program integrates Psychology courses with Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics into a rigorous interdisciplinary major studying the nervous system.
