Documentation, Analysis and Translation of Language in Society
Rachel Varra directs William & Mary’s lab for the Documentation, Analysis and Translation of Language in Society (DATLaS) and collaborates with undergraduate students on a variety of projects. DATLaS projects examine language in its cultural, historical, and social context
The DATLaS mission is:
- To understand language processing in the human mind and the relationship between language, society, identity and cognition
- To document the lives and connections of individuals in their communities
- To engender understanding of the role and working of human language to support social justice
- To train students in research and develop concrete skills related to language research, which are transferable to other domains
- To encourage collaborative and meaningful reciprocity between William & Mary and its community
