Discourse Analysis at William & Mary
Leslie Cochrane directs Discourse Analysis at William & Mary and collaborates with undergraduate students on sociolinguistics projects that investigate English language discourse in conversation, social media, and the linguistic landscape.
The DA@W&M research group works with discourse analysis, a field of linguistics that uses qualitative methods to connect spoken and written language to a larger social context. DA@W&M focuses on naturalistic data produced by and about people with disabilities.
Discourse analysis, and sociolinguistics more broadly, seeks to benefit participants, their communities, and society at large. By doing discourse analysis about disability, we hope not only to add to the body of scholarly knowledge, but also to support positive social changes in the world.
