Seek Advice from Others

You are not alone!

Your Peer Student Advisor

A Peer Advisor is a student leader who works with the Office Undergraduate Academic Affairs to assist you before and during January registration. The Peer Advisor is an upper division student at W&M and can offer tips and strategies from an insider's point of view. Peer advisors will reach out to new students through email when College Studies opens. They will review the draft schedule of courses you will create as part of College Studies and give you feedback ahead of your first registration window.

Pre-Major Advisors - available during New Student Orientation

Once you arrive on campus for orientation (late January), you will be assigned a Pre-Major Advisor and they will email you to introduce themselves and schedule a time for your orientation advising meeting. This faculty member will become your primary contact for academic and campus resource information. You will meet with your pre-major advisor during orientation, where you will discuss your plans for finalizing your spring schedule. You will continue to work with your pre-major advisor until you declare your major.

Pre-Professional Advisors - available during New Student Orientation

Pre-professional advisors can work with you to discuss the requirements related to specific professional tracks. These advisors supplement – but do not replace – the relationship you have with your pre-major advisor. Once you are on campus, you should email the appropriate pre-professional advisor to learn about information on courses and experiences that can make you a competitive candidate when you apply to a professional school. Many pre-professional advisors also offer information sessions during orientation and throughout the academic year.
