Spiritual Celebration for the Graduates
The Spiritual Celebration is graduation event that celebrates the seniors from the many of the faith traditions on campus, who have devoted time and thought to developing their faith during their time at W&M. It is the signature event of W&M Campus Ministers United to honor the completion of each undergraduate's academic career. This year it will be Friday afternoon May 19 from 3:00 to 4:00 in Commonwealth Auditorium.
Spiritual Celebration highlights include hymns, musical selections, readings, reflections, and speeches by students. All undergraduate degree candidates and their guests are invited to attend.
The Spiritual Celebration is believed to have originated at Oxford University in 1432 when each bachelor was required to deliver a sermon in Latin as part of his academic exercise. This historical British practice continued with the earliest universities in this country. W&M is the second oldest institution of higher learning in the country.
The Spiritual Celebration is a multi-faith service celebrating the completion of each undergraduate's academic career.
