TRIP Summer 2015 Applications

The Teaching, Research, and International Policy (TRIP) Project is now hiring up to 8 paid summer research assistants to help explore the relationships between teaching and research practices and foreign policy. TRIP examines questions such as: Is there a “gap” between what is discussed in the academy and the halls of the State Department? If there is a gap, why does it exist? What can be done to bridge the gap between scholars and policymakers? To help answer these questions, TRIP conducts tri-ennial surveys of IR scholars in more than 30 countries and regular “Snap Polls” of IR scholars in the U.S. around important world events. We also have the world’s most comprehensive database of scholarship in the discipline, having coded and analyzed more than 5,000 journal articles dating back to 1980.

Summer RAs will help expand our coding of books and articles in the IR discipline and collect information on scholars in the profession. RAs will also have opportunities to use some of the data they collect in blog posts and research notes, working with the faculty supervisors of the project (Drs. Sue Peterson, Mike Tierney and Daniel Maliniak). In addition to paid work, RAs will be able to participate in our extensive summer social program. RAs may take classes during the summer if they would like.

All majors, all years (including graduating seniors) may apply. Student must be available from June 1 – August 7. The application is available at www.wm.edu/trip. Questions may be directed to Nicky Bell (njbell@wm.edu) or Darin Self (dsself@wm.edu).
