Informal Recruitment (Spring)
Spring 2025 COB
Informal Recruitment is also commonly referred to as Continuous Open Bidding (COB). COB takes place every spring semester, but could also occur in the fall after formal recruitment concludes depending on numbers.
Formal vs. Informal Recruitment - What's the difference?
Informal recruitment is as the name says a lot more casual than the structured formal recruitment process in the fall. During formal recruitment potential new members are able to meet all 10 chapters during a structured process that takes place over the weekends.
Informal recruitment on the other hand has a more fluid timeline. Once chapters find out if they are able to recruit, they share a schedule of events they are hosting on their social media. These events take place over several weeks and can range in activity. Chapters often host an open house for interested students to meet members towards the beginning of the semester. They also often host events where you can participate in little activities with current members such as game nights, paint nights, coffee dates, and many other things.
COB is a great opportunity for women who did not join a sorority through formal recruitment to become a member of the Panhellenic sorority community. Not all chapters at W&M are able to participate in informal recruitment each year, so please take this into consideration as you make a decision about the best way for you to consider membership in a sorority. Informal recruitment is chapter directed and not facilitated by the Panhellenic Council. If you are interested in joining an organization, you should reach out to members directly or to their chapter social media. Informal recruitment is a chapter directed process and not facilitated by the Panhellenic Council. Should you need any additional information or help getting connected, feel free to email [[Panhellenic]].
