Formal Recruitment (Fall)
2024 Primary Recruitment
Formal recruitment (sponsored by Panhellenic) takes place each fall semester and is the structured recruitment process that potential members can participate in. Formal recruitment takes place over two weekends early in September and provides interested students the opportunity to visit each of our 10 NPC (National Panhellenic Conference) chapters. Here potential members talk one-on-one with current sorority members and learn more about each sorority's activities, sisterhood, and values. At the end of the formal recruitment process, bids are extended for membership in one of the 10 NPC sororities. Women interested in participating in this process can register starting July 15, 2024. There is no fee to participate in the first weekend. We want you to come out and see if our community could be the right fit for you while you are at the college.
Recruitment Registration Information
In order to participate in formal recruitment, you must register. Registration goes live on July 15 and will remain open until September 4. The registration asks you to provide contact information, information about your involvement and education, as well as interests that you have. It can take anywhere between 10-30 minutes to fill out depending on the amount of details you include.
Note: There is a $35 recruitment participation fee that is charged after the first weekend concludes. Those that wish to participate in the second weekend of recruitment will be required to pay this fee before the sisterhood round starts.

View a detailed recruitment schedule (pdf). See below for more information about the individual days of recruitment.
Open HouseThe Open House days are designed for students participating in recruitment to visit all 10 chapters so you can get to know a little bit about each of the organizations. They are split up over two days to give everyone the opportunity to meet and to make sure you have time for breaks in between. At the end of Open Round Day 2, PNMs will get to rank the chapter's they attended in order of who they would like to visit again. |
Philanthropy RoundThe third day of recruitment is Philanthropypy Round. This is the first day that PNMs will start attending less chapters. PNMs can be invited to attend up to eight chapters, but the average invites for the day is in the four to six range. Today PNMs will learn more about each chapter's specific local and national philanthropy. Chapters spend a lot of time fundraising, raising awareness, or participating in community service for their chosen philanthropies. At the end of Philanthropy Round, PNMs will get to rank the chapter's they attended in order of who they would like to visit again. |
Sisterhood RoundThe fourth day of recruitment is Sisterhood Round. During this round, PNMs can expect an average of three chapter invitations. There is the possibility that a PNM could be invited back to up to five chapters. This is the day PNMs will learn more about each chapter's unique sisterhood, values, and what it is like to be a member. Chapters will also address financial obligations of membership in this round. At the end of Sisterhood Round, PNMs will get to rank the chapter's they attended in order of who they would like to visit again. |
Preference RoundThe final day of recruitment is Preference Round. PNMs can only visit up to two chapters this day. In this round PNMs can expect to participate in a ceremony specific to the chapter(s) they visit to close out recruitment. This day is often more special in nature as you get a unique glimpse into the chapter. At the end of Preference Round, PNMs will get to rank the chapter's they attended in order of who they would like to join. |
Bid DayBid Day is what some might say the most exciting part of recruitment. On Bid Day students will learn if they received an invitation to join an organization and will get to celebrate in the afternoon with their new sorority. Bid Day can be overwhelming as all new members "run home" at the same time. Once this is over, new members will spend the afternoon celebrating with their new sisters! |
Potential New Member (PNM) Orientation
The Potential New Member Orientation serves as an opportunity for students registered for fall recruitment to learn more about the day-to-day process of recruitment. Panhellenic will address the schedule and provide general information on what to expect. After the PNM Orientation has concluded, students will have the opportunity to meet their Recruitment Counselors and their Recruitment Counselor groups. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet other students participating in the recruitment process and allows you to get your questions answered.
Recruitment Counselors
Recruitment Counselors (RCs) are current sorority members that have temporarily left their organization in order to help guide students participating in formal recruitment through the process. You will meet them and your RC group here that will consist of students also going through recruitment. Your RCs are a great resource for you as they have been in your position and understand what you are experiencing. They have also been trained in all things related to recruitment so they can help answer any of your questions.
Membership Recruitment Acceptance Binding Agreement
The Membership Recruitment Acceptance Binding Agreement, also known as MRABA, is a binding contract potential new members will have to sign at the end of preference round. Students will have the opportunity to rank either one or two chapters in order of their joining preference contingent on the number of chapters they attended. This document will detail the recruitment policies and privileges you must adhere to for receiving a chapter bid, not receiving a bid, or declining an invitation to join a chapter. This contract will be explained to you in full several times prior to you signing it to ensure that you fully understand its ramifications.
Improving the Recruitment Experience
Prior Time CommitmentsWe understand that recruitment is a time-intensive process. You might already have previous time commitments or may have something come up. As such, there is an excuse form that your RC can share should you have any scheduling conflicts that arise closer to date. It is important to note that this form is required should you miss any events. Once an excuse form is received, Panhellenic will serve as liaison to chapters and will inform them should you be unable to attend their event. In special circumstances we can also try and accommodate your schedule, but this is not a guarantee. If you are unable to be at recruitment for some reason, you do have the opportunity to write a letter to the chapters expressing your continued interest in their organization. Panhellenic will once again serve as the distribute of the information. Note: Missing an opportunity to attend a chapter invitation during formal recruitment can significantly impact your chances of being invited back. Keep that in mind as you are reviewing the formal recruitment schedule. |
AccommodationsIn the recruitment registration, students who require accommodations during recruitment are given the space to include any accommodation they might need for an equitable recruitment process. These accommodations include but are not limited to outdoor seating for those with anxiety, claustrophobia, or auditory impairments, indoor seating for those prone to passing out or require air conditioning, schedule alterations for those who require taking a medication at a specific time, addition of ramps, and assistance inside the house for those with mobility disabilities. We want to emphasize that accommodation should only be requested for those whose recruitment process would be inequitable without said accommodation. The Vice President of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion will be in communication with students who request accommodations to make sure they are being executed in the best way possible. |
