Faculty Governance
Faculty have a vital role in governance at William & Mary. The Faculty Assembly is the governance body that includes elected members representing the university's five faculties: Arts & Sciences, Business, Education, Law and Marine Sciences.
The constituencies of Arts & Sciences include Areas I, II and III. The Faculty Assembly regularly advises the President and the Provost on matters affecting the university's welfare, ensuring effective faculty participation in the governance of the university as a whole.
The Faculty Handbook is a go-to reference that defines faculty roles and outlines information regarding faculty rights, responsibilities and protections. The Handbook details faculty hiring, evaluation, tenure and promotion, and leave. Accessing the Handbook when questions arise is always a good first step.
