Laboratory & Research Safety
Faculty and students who work in scientific laboratories are exposed to many kinds of hazards. And, unlike most workplaces, laboratories involve a greater variety of possible hazards than do most workplaces. EH&S supports laboratories with guidance, incident response, SDS management, and a variety of services that are important to keeping a safe workplace for all faculty, staff, and students that work in the sciences.
The EH&S Introduction to New Faculty & Staff document (pdf) gives a lot of useful information on how EH&S supports the sciences, and how principal investigators can keep their laboratories safe.
University Chemical Hygiene Plan (CHP) - covers core safety issues common to most labs. Laboratory Standard Operating Procedures - lab-specific CHPs are complementary to the university CHP.
