Introducing plans for William & Mary’s campus for innovative learning at the W&M Washington Center

We are thrilled to announce plans to establish a campus for innovative learning within the W&M Washington Center, a groundbreaking initiative poised to deeply engage with and enrich our vibrant community in Washington, D.C. through education, research, and career advancement opportunities in the heart of the nation's capital.

This dynamic new campus will serve as a hub for academic change, providing our deans, leadership, and faculty with a platform to craft innovative new academic offerings tailored to the unique needs and opportunities of the Washington, D.C. area. The W&M campus for innovative learning embodies our commitment to fostering excellence in education, driving impactful research, and facilitating pathways to successful careers, while serving an array of diverse communities. With a concentration on three main areas, our campus for innovative learning will be agile, allowing W&M to respond to the emerging needs of our students quickly as new fields develop. With the existing W&M Washington Center in place, the new campus will:

  1. Enhance learning
  2. Create new knowledge
  3. Disseminate information through events and public programming

With a broader student population in mind, this campus is uniquely positioned to personalize the learning opportunities along with access to career development at all stages. Three working groups are underway, exploring exciting new initiatives that could also create new, sustainable revenue sources for the University.

Our inaugural offering will be a "Teacher Pathways Program," directed by the School of Education. This transformative initiative is designed to expand the pool of certified teachers in the D.C. area by  giving them multiple pathways to earn the certifications necessary to excel in their profession. This clinically rich program is a testament to our dedication to producing highly skilled and effective educators.

To further solidify our presence as a leader in innovative learning, and collaborating with multiple partners, including the Raymond A. Mason School of Business and the Office of Strategic Cultural Partnerships, the second working group is exploring a new comprehensive non-profit management degree program. This initiative aims to equip individuals with the skills and knowledge needed to navigate the complex landscape of the non-profit sector successfully.

Finally, the Schools of Business, Law, and several units in Arts & Sciences are exploring the development of a cutting-edge cybersecurity academic program. In an era where digital threats are ever-present, this program will provide students with the expertise to tackle the challenges of cybersecurity head-on.

The W&M campus for innovative learning represents a commitment to continual growth and evolution. As we embark on this exciting journey, we invite all members of the W&M community to join us in shaping the future of education and professional development in Washington, D.C.

Stay tuned for further updates as we continue to expand our offerings, providing innovative educational opportunities that align with the evolving needs of our students and the dynamic landscape of the nation's capital.

Thank you for your support as we embark on this transformative venture.
