A Confidential Resource
Understanding confidentiality.
The Haven is a place where you can go WITHOUT a report being made.
Please read The Haven's Confidentiality Statement before accessing services. The trained Confidential Advocates (student volunteers) who work in The Haven, as well as the Director of The Haven, are "confidential resources." Confidential resources are NOT required to report incidences of sexual harassment or assault, domestic or dating violence, stalking, or other gender-based discrimination. This allows students to get support and resources, hear about reporting options, options for academic or campus modifications, and other remedies before taking further action. It is critical that you understand who is a responsible employee (required to report to the Title IX Coordinator) before disclosing your, or your friends, experiences of sexual harassment or assault, domestic or dating violence, stalking, or other gender-based discrimination.
A faculty or staff person MUST report to the Title IX Coordinator.
William & Mary wants to help people who have experienced sexual harassment or assault, domestic or dating violence, stalking, or other gender-based discrimination and hold those accountable for sexual misconduct. For these reasons, and because of federal and state law, when faculty or staff become aware of sexual misconduct involving a student or occurring on campus, the faculty or staff person must report to the Title IX Coordinator.
We know that people who have experienced sexual harassment or assault, domestic or dating violence, stalking, or other gender-based discrimination may want to remain anonymous and be in control of their next steps. They may not be sure how or to whom they want to report the incident. To help support survivors, William & Mary has some confidential resources -- The Haven is one of them.
Confidential Advocates at The Haven, and the Director of The Haven will NOT share any information from visitors with any other school official without consent.
