Careers: Academia & Beyond
One of the best ways to explore the world of work is through reviewing job postings. Through postings, you will learn about employer expectations, such as the latest qualifications and requirements, as well as the value of experiential learning and research.
A good start as you search for roles in academia could be reliable, time-honored sources such as The Chronicle and HigherEdJobs.
If you are interested in exploring careers beyond academia, a good first step is to search professional organizations for your academic area of expertise, such as:
- American Studies Association
- American Anthropological Association
- American Historical Association
- Association for Public Policy Analysis & Management
Whether searching regionally, nationally, or globally, LinkedIn can be a great source to connect with alumni and professionals in your field of interest, which may bring up opportunities you wouldn’t find elsewhere. To learn more about how to utilize LinkedIn for networking, talk to an Office of Career Development & Professional Engagement advisor or view our Utilizing LinkedIn video clinic.
