University of Virginia Ed Psych - Applied Developmental Science

Our work is focused on promoting human development in its diversity and complexity. We identify meaningful, relevant problems and develop solutions to address them. Our work is interdisciplinary, methodologically rigorous, and strength-based.

Students admitted into EP-ADS will receive full funding, such as from a department, through research grants, or through the Virginia Education Science Training (VEST) program, supported by a doctoral training grant from the Institute of Education Sciences. 

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences

A PhD from the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences is like no other. Virginia Commonwealth University Biomedical Sciences Doctoral Program

The Biomedical Sciences Doctoral Portal (BSDP) at VCU is an entry point for students interested in doctoral training leading to careers in academic research, biotechnology, scientific policymaking, higher education and many other areas.

The BSDP oversees admissions for and recruits students into six Ph.D. programs within the School of Medicine.

Case Western Reserve University Developmental Masters & Early Intervention Program

This 15-month graduate program at Case Western Reserve University allows students to complete their Master of Arts Degree, while simultaneously earning an Early Intervention Developmental Specialist Certificate through the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities.

The program offers courses and practical training in the field of developmental psychology. In addition, our training model is state-of the-art in that it is inter-professional in nature, recognizing the need to train across multiple disciplines including communication sciences, medicine, and nursing.

Our program is situated in an urban environment surrounded by major hospitals, clinics, and schools. Students will receive interdisciplinary training working with children with developmental delays in a variety of settings.

Eastern Virginia Medical School Art Therapy and Counseling Program

EVMS’ ART THERAPY AND COUNSELING, MS PROGRAM is based on growth-oriented and reflective classroom, studio, community and clinical experiences. For more than 40 years, the department’s nationally and internationally renowned faculty have prepared world-class art therapists who are culturally responsive, invested in their communities and working at the highest professional and ethical standards. EVMS Art Therapy and Counseling is deeply rooted in the Hampton Roads community and gives students a unique opportunity to learn, train and grow alongside local partners and area organizations.
Prerequisites include:
*12 semester credit hours of Psychology (Developmental, Abnormal, Theories of Personality and one course of your choice)
*18 semester credit hours of Studio Art (Painting, Drawing, 3/D Sculpture, Clay/Ceramics and two courses of your choice).

Shippensburg University Applied Psychology Program
  • Located in south-central Pennsylvania the program is 100% online and can be completed in 1 year of full-time study or 2 years on a part-time basis. 
  • The program emphasizes the application of psychological principles and methodologies to real-world problems.
  • The majority of our graduates enter fields where they assume research-related roles (e.g., program evaluation, survey researcher, data analyst, quality control specialist, etc.) across a variety of sectors in business/industry, government, and non-profit settings.
  • In addition, there are multiple specialties that students can pursue including a Six Sigma blackbelt certification, UX Design, a Behavior Specialist Certificate which provides advanced coursework in Behavioral Analysis for those interested in working with individuals with developmental impairments (e.g., autism).
  • Others have conducted collaborative research with us resulting in conference presentations, journal articles, and have been accepted into competitive doctoral programs.
  • Remote assistantships are available on a competitive basis, although contingent on university funding.

Virginia State University Health Psychology PhD Program is still accepting applications.

  • We will begin reviewing MS applications around April 1st.
  • Virginia State University Department of Psychology has a PhD in Health Psychology, with Clinical Health and Behavioral and Community Health Sciences tracks.
  • We also have a Master of Science in Psychology with General and Clinical Psychology concentrations.
  • Faculty are preparing a self-study for APA accreditation of the Clinical Health program.
  • PhD in Health Psychology
  • The program has a research focus on behavioral risk factors that impact health, such as stress, at-risk sexual practices, drug use, sedentary lifestyles, smoking, noncompliance with treatment regimens, etc. The program also focuses on health service provision disparities in minority communities for diseases such as mental health, cardiovascular disorders, diabetes, and hypertension, as well as effective health promotion education and planning for those communities. The Clinical Health specialization prepares students to work in applied settings as Licensed Clinical Psychologists, such as hospitals, physical rehabilitation settings, outpatient clinics, and other health services settings as members of multidisciplinary teams.  The Behavioral and Community Health Sciences specialization trains students to conduct research and to develop and implement community interventions.   • Master of Science in Psychology
  • The Master’s program prepares students for doctoral-level training or applied careers in psychology. The General concentration prepares students to become community college instructors, researchers, or for future doctoral-level training. The Clinical concentration is most appropriate for those who want careers in the public mental health sector, including mental health agencies, prisons, and hospitals.
