Prof. Carrión publishes two new books
Paulina Carrión, Teaching Professor of Hispanic Studies, has recently published two new books. The first one, titled, ENCUENTROS EN SALUD y CULTURA: Pacientes hispanohablantes en el sistema de salud de los EE.UU, is a a free interactive virtual book for students and health professionals who seek to improve their linguistic and cultural skills in the field of medical Spanish. The book, coauthor with Prof. Diana Galarreta-Aima (James Madison University) and Prof. Alicia López-Operé (University of Virginia) is composed of 7 chapters. Each chapter focuses on an encounter in health and culture with Spanish-speaking patients. It can be read here.
The other book that Prof. Carrión has published, in collaboration with a team of teachers of Spanish language, is volume 2 of the series Entre Culturas, which is a reference in the field of teaching Spanish as a foreign language in the United States. It is a four-level, standards-based, thematically organized Spanish program that provides students with opportunities to interact and engage with authentic materials and adolescent speakers of the language. Students acquire communication skills and content knowledge while exploring the products, practices, and perspectives of Spanish-speaking cultures. The book can be bought here.
