Where to Start?
If you are new to William & Mary and considering a Kinesiology major, we recommend that you take KINE 200: Intro to the Human Body in the fall, and KINE 204: Intro to Kinesiology your first spring on campus, unless you plan on going to medical school after W&M.
If medical school is part of your plan, check out the Pre-Med Advising resources, and talk to the pre-med advisor. You should probably take BIOL 220/221: Intro to Organisms, Ecology, Evolution/Lab in the fall. You might then take BIOL 225/226: Intro to Molecules, Cells, Development/Lab in the spring. These courses are prerequisites for many of the advanced courses required for a Kinesiology major. If you are interested in another health profession, we have more advice for pre-health professionals.
Not a major?
If you are interested in taking a Kinesiology course, but don't plan to major or minor in our field, check out our course list. We have a lot of courses that meet COLL requirements and that don't have prerequisites.
Plan of Study for a Kinesiology major
First Semester Course Guide by Major
The following sequence of courses is a logical progression through many of the core courses in Kinesiology. You should consult with a Kinesiology advisor to determine the best sequence for your individual interests. You do not have to be a declared major to request an advising meeting. We are happy to meet with you any time before you declare your major.
Note the asterisk (*) by the courses that are only taught in Fall semesters and the (^) by the courses only taught in the Spring semesters. Check the course schedule to see which ones will be taught next semester. Check the open course list to see which classes still have open seats.
