The Department of Kinesiology would like to welcome the class of 2015 to the growing family of our alumni. Of the 117 students who graduated from our department this year, 86 of you attended the graduation ceremony along with 6 Interdisciplinary graduates. Your graduation weekend started on Saturday at William & Mary Hall where the main commencement ceremony was held and where Condoleezza Rice, former U.S. Secretary of State, delivered a commencement speech. On Sunday you returned to campus for the department ceremony where degrees were handed out while around 600 family and friends looked on. During the department ceremony Ellen Shaffrey was named as the Kinesiology & Health Sciences Major of the Year and gave an acceptance speech describing her experiences while majoring and doing research in the department. During Saturday’s College-wide ceremony, Ms. Shaffrey was named the winner of the Lord Botetourt Award as the outstanding student of the College’s entire graduating class of 2015. Quite an honor and something all of us in the department can be very proud of! When the proceedings concluded, everyone was invited to stay and share in some hors d’oeuvres and drinks. People enjoyed mingling – and hugging – and taking lots of pictures.
