On Tuesday, April 9, the Department of Classical Studies and the William & Mary/St. Andrews Joint Degree Programme hosted Thomas Biggs for his talk, “Gender & Intertextuality in Vergil’s Aeneid.” The talk focused on the intertextuality between Vergil and his Greek epic predecessor, Homer. Dr. Biggs explored how Vergil’s borrowing and transformation of Homeric similes map onto the notions of gender and sexuality tied to certain epic characters.
