Confronting time, memory, love, and loss through photography
Student Bio
I am Iris Wu, a senior majoring in Art and Mathematics. This past summer, I did a virtual mentoring program arranged by Professor Eliot Dudik.
It was a customized mentorship program for the 2020 summer with four prominent photographic artist/educators. I worked most closely with two of them, but also received guidance and feedback from all four on my artistic research. The meetings were helpful to my art practice and specifically to my honors thesis project that I had just started working on at the time.
In the project, I worked with the medium of photography. I confronted time, memory, love and loss in my personal relationships and pose that photography as a medium is inseparable from its relationships with time, memory, and existence. These artists and experienced educators brought various ideas from different perspectives together and sparked my enthusiasm for making work.
Thanks to this program, I kept my creative mind active to make artwork under the COVID-19 pandemic.
