St Andrews Joint Degree Programme
Two premier institutions of higher learning, 900 years of experience, one dynamic program
William & Mary, the nation's second-oldest college, has paired with the University of St Andrews, the third-oldest university in the English-speaking world to create the St Andrews William & Mary Joint Degree Programme. The joint degree programme is specifically designed to combine the breadth of a William & Mary liberal arts education with the specialization offered at St Andrews.
The programme is ideally suited for accomplished students who are committed to their field of study but who appreciate the benefits of the range of knowledge that the liberal arts provide (the minimum number of credits that Joint Programme students must take in their majors is more than the maximum number allowed in the standard W&M program).
Earn a degree from both universities
Students complete two years at each institution and earn a single diploma—a Bachelor of Arts (International Honours)—with the insignia of both institutions.
What majors can participate in the programme?
Students can major in economics, English, history, international relations, classical studies or film studies.
How do students apply to the Joint Degree Programme?
Applicants to the St Andrews Joint Degree Programme will need to submit a supplemental essay within W&M's Common App. The essay should demonstrate commitment to your intended field of study, awareness of the strengths of both universities and a basic understanding of the Joint Programme. Students may not apply to the Joint Degree Programme through both William & Mary and St Andrews. The Programme is open to all applicants to W&M, regardless of country of origin.
