City Point Archaeology
More than meets the eye
On August 5, 2002, archaeologists from the William & Mary Center for Archaeological Research began excavations in the heart of City Point at the request of the City of Hopewell. Many visitors are familiar with historic area's old buildings—but these tell only part of the story of Hopewell's heritage. Beneath the city's lawns, archaeologists are uncovering a story that spans thousands of years. In fact, some consider City Point one of the most significant archaeological localities in the Mid-Atlantic region. We invite you to follow our discoveries as they unfold over the months ahead.
