Frequently Asked Questions
What is the CVC?
The Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign (CVC) is the annual charity drive of the employees of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
How is the CVC different from the United Way?
The CVC is a vehicle for giving, it is not a charity in and of itself. The United Way is one of more than 900 charities approved to participate in the CVC.
What are the dates for the university's CVC Campaign?
Early October through December.
What is the CVC overhead rate?
The Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign's low administrative cost (5% of current year campaign funds) is a lower percentage than most charities spend on fundraising and administrative costs themselves.
What are the advantages of giving through the CVC?
You can make your charitable contribution through payroll deduction, thereby spreading your contribution throughout the year. The participating charities have been screened to ensure they are fiscally sound and that they perform the services stated.
How many charities may I designate for donation?
As many as you wish!
What happens if I do not designate my contribution?
Employees are encouraged to give to their charity of choice. If you make a contribution without designating a specific charity, your donation will be allocated on a percentage basis to all charities receiving contributions in the state and be subject to the overhead rate. Be sure to designate!
What if my charity choice is not among those listed in the CVC directory?
Charities that wish to participate in the CVC must complete an application between March 1 and April 30 each year.
Where can I review additional information?
On the Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign website.
When do payroll deductions begin?
They begin with the first paycheck of January.
