Lemon Project Symposium
March 15-16, 2019
The theme of the Lemon Project's 9th annual symposium, “Celebrating Legacies, Constructing Futures: Four Hundred Years of Black Community and Culture,” recognizes the 400 years since the first Africans arrived in the area and challenges participants to consider the challenges, accomplishments, and the future of the African American community and culture.
Highlights include keynote, Christy Coleman, CEO of the American Civil War Museum; a roundtable discussion led by Dr. Joanne Braxton, Professor Emerita of English and CEO and President of the Braxton Institute, on restorative justice; and a viewing of the recently released documentary, by director/writer Frances Causey, “The Long Shadow.” There is also a long list of panel presentations from scholars and community members.
