Leah Glenn

Leah Glenn is the Year of the Arts Professor of Dance at William & Mary as well as the founder and artistic director of Leah Glenn Dance Theatre. Leah uses dance as a lens to examine social justice issues and says the connection between the two has always been a motivation and inspiration for her and her art. She has explored these connections and opportunities throughout her career as an educator, scholar, choreographer and performer.

Nine, the inaugural performance at W&M's renovated and expanded Phi Beta Kappa Memorial Hall, drew inspiration from the civil rights movement. Nine began as a dance piece before growing into a multimedia performance featuring W&M alumni, current students and professional dancers. Additionally, Professor Hermine Pinson wrote poetry for the piece and Steve Prince, director of engagement and distinguished artist in residence at the Muscarelle Museum of Art, designed the costumes and sets. “It is such a pleasure to have this opportunity not only to collaborate with my colleagues in the way that I’ve been able to, but to collaborate with the students and alumni and professional dancers on something as meaningful as this," Leah said.
