Pip Decker ’04

Co-founder and CEO of Current Trucking, Renewable Energy Entrepreneur

Major: {{https://www.wm.edu/majorsminors/publicpolicy/, Public Policy}}

While a student at William & Mary, Pip Decker had a closeup view of how technological progress converges with public policy. During a summer internship for the House Committee on Energy and Commerce in Washington D.C., he worked on legislation that would enhance energy conservation, research and development. After graduation, Pip worked for other companies before founding BMR Energy, which operates wind and solar projects throughout Central America and the Caribbean and is now majority-owned by Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Group.

The idea for Current Trucking came to Pip as he watched two men installing solar panels on a roof in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Seeing renewable projects being adopted even in challenging markets inspired him to push into new territory to reduce pollution: the freight industry. Current Trucking supports electrification by supplying vehicles, providing maintenance and building charging stations for its clients. Since its launch in 2021, the company has delivered the first charging station and electric vehicles to the Port of Virginia, the first charging station in the Port of Newark and the first electric bus at Denver International Airport, among other projects.

Pip says, “I credit William & Mary for giving me the lateral thinking and curiosity to materialize impactful projects through a public policy lens.”
