Contagious Diseases
The Student Health Center medical staff and the university's Public Health Advisory Team routinely monitor emerging infectious diseases on campus and in the surrounding regions of campus.
The Centers for Disease Control and the Virginia Department of Health are excellent resources for information on preventative actions and symptoms for a broad array of infectious diseases including COVID-19, monkeypox, and polio.
If there are concerns about any diseases on campus, required actions, and/or information to share, William & Mary's Emergency Management Team will send an email to the campus community.
A number of vaccines are required of all full time university students in accordance with guidance from the Virginia Department of Health and Centers for Disease Control. The monkeypox vaccine, which is NOT a required vaccine, is currently available at the Peninsula Health Department in Newport News for individuals who meet specific criteria. The Student Health Center does not currently have the monkeypox vaccine.
