Staff Search Guide
William & Mary is committed to diversity, equal opportunity, and affirmative action. To fulfill the university’s diversity, equal opportunity, and affirmative action goals, the search procedures do the following:
- Provide for transparency and consistency to render the hiring process inclusive and fair;
- Guard against conscious and unconscious discrimination or bias against any individual or group based on race, sex, or other legally protected trait;
- Seek to enhance the diversity in our workforce consistent with federal law and regulations.
Before reading the hiring guide (sections are displayed on the left-hand menu), please review William & Mary's Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Policy Statement.
Compliance with Federal Regulations: Affirmative Action
William & Mary is required by federal law to ensure equity in all selection processes and to establish and attain affirmative action goals. Record keeping and monitoring of the procedures are required by law. As the phrase implies, Affirmative Action requires employers (like William & Mary) to make additional efforts to recruit and employ members of groups formerly excluded and under-represented.
Questions regarding Affirmative Action administration and employee accommodations can be directed to University Human Resources. Additional Affirmative Action program and policy information can be found at the Office of Diversity & Inclusion.
Confidentiality
Search committee members or interview panel members whose job requires them to work with search and selection information are to uphold the highest levels of confidentiality. Except as required by law, information about job applicants and their background or work history will not be disclosed to other individuals within the institution who are not directly involved in the search process or disclosed to individuals outside the institution. No individual will release the name of a job applicant or information about the applicant without the applicant’s consent.
