About Cortney
My primary areas of responsibility are coordinating between University Communications and the offices of the provost, chief operating officer and the vice president for Student Affairs. I am also the central liaison to communications colleagues in the four professional/graduate schools and other main divisions of William & Mary.
Formerly, I was executive and special projects communication manager at W&M. In that role, I worked closely with William & Mary’s chief communications officer and served as lead coordinator on special projects communications, including the 50th anniversary of African American students in residence at W&M and the 100th anniversary of co-education at W&M.
In 2020, I became the primary lead for the university’s COVID-19 pandemic communications, serving on the COVID-19 Response Team as well as being assigned to the Public Health Advisory Team.
I started as a beat writer with W&M News in the summer of 2014 after realizing that, as a local reporter, my best stories were coming out of the university anyway. Prior to that, I was a local reporter in Southeastern Virginia for roughly a decade.
