Accommodations
Student Accessibility Services will send out "Accommodation Letters" to faculty after the Add/Drop period has ended each semester. These letters will include information on what accommodations a student will expect to receive in class for the semester. However, it is the student's responsibility to discuss accommodations and accommodation logistics with faculty. Definition of an Accommodation
Accommodations are defined as any reasonable adjustment required for a student to have equal access to the university's programs and activities, inside or outside the classroom.
Accommodations do not include:
- Substantial modifications to academic standards
- Modification or adjustment of requirements essential to any program of instruction, program of activity, or essential to any directly related licensing requirement, or
- Modifications or adjustments that result in undue hardship, considering the nature, cost, and impact of the accommodation and other factors
Possible "reasonable accommodations" include, but are not limited to:
- Rest breaks
- Note takers (peer or professor)
- Advanced notice of assignments
- Sign Language Interpreter
- Extended time (assignments and examinations)
- Flexibility with medical absences
- Flexibility with evaluation/quiz/exam/lab dates as needed
- Lab assistant
- Scribe or talk-to-text computer software
- Preferential seating in the classroom
- Permission to record lectures
- Priority/preferred seating
- Quite/private testing environment
- Spell checking devices
- Test materials in electronic format
- Use of a calculator
- Use of a computer
