TutorZone
The TutorZone tutor application has closed for the semester. We will reopen the application in March 2025.
The TutorZone has transitioned to a new scheduling service called Penji. Schedule an appointment through the link below or download the Penji app on the Apple Store or Google Play Store.
Please note that you must schedule a tutoring appointment at least 48 hours before the appointment time. This is out of fairness to our tutors as they need time to prepare for appointments.

TutorZone Mission
The mission of the TutorZone is threefold: to contribute to student retention and academic achievement, to coordinate the services of well-qualified and trained peer tutors, and to assist students with the development of independent learning skills.
The TutorZone can help with:
- Learning skills vital to success in particular courses
- Practicing problem-solving skills
- Reviewing course material
Please note that the TutorZone is not able to help with specific assignments that will be turned in for a grade.
Scheduling
A TutorZone appointment is scheduled online through Penji, click the link above. Students sign in with their William & Mary credentials, select the length and frequency of the appointment, the subject, the tutor, and the time for their appointment. Appointments must be booked at least 48 hours in advance.
Please use your @wm.edu email address to schedule appointments and not your @email.wm.edu email address.
Please do not schedule more than 2 hours of consecutive appointments with the same Tutor.
Canceling
In your confirmation email there is a link to Manage your Appointment to be able to cancel. You also can go back into the booking system and select your appointment on your home screen to cancel.
No Show & Late Cancellation Policy
If you must cancel an appointment, please provide 2-hours notice. Appointments canceled less than 2 hours before your appointment will be considered late cancellations. After three no-shows or three late cancellations, you will be blocked from making appointments at the TutorZone for the remainder of the semester.
Tutoring Cost
Tutoring is now a free service at William & Mary through the support of the Parent Fund! Please feel free to schedule appointments without charge.
This refers specifically to one-on-one, course-specific tutoring and Time Management Consultations done by our undergraduate Tutors. Coaching is still a paid service.
Tutors
Our tutors are friendly and experienced undergraduate students trained to assist with the development of independent learning skills in a variety of subjects. All tutors have received an A or A- in every course in which they tutor.
Certification
The College Reading & Learning Association's (CRLA) International Tutor Training Program Certification (ITTPC) authorizes the TutorZone to issue certificates to tutors meeting the approved CRLA requirements to be a Level I Certified Tutor.
We are currently offering Level I & II Certification to Tutors.

The TutorZone has developed a reputation as a resource that is both respected and recommended by faculty and students alike. Coaches
AccessCoaching is a referral-based service. You can get a referral by meeting with Academic Wellbeing, Student Accessibility Services (for SAS registered students), Athletics (for athletes), or the Office of Student Veteran Engagement (for student veterans and their dependents). All charges for coaching appointments will be paid by the office that refers the student to the program. SchedulingIn order to be paired with a coach, all students must be referred to the program. If you are interested in receiving coaching services but you have not been referred, please reach out to tutorzone@wm.edu and an Academic Wellbeing staff member will work with you to determine if the coaching program will suit your needs. Coaches will set up recurring appointments in our scheduling system for all sessions following the first meeting. |
