Office of Undergraduate Academic Affairs
During the summer, the Office of Undergraduate Academic Affairs (OUAA) can answer general questions about academic planning, exploring majors, the summer registration process, and can connect you to other academic resources on campus.
College Studies online module – Available June 23
The College Studies online advising module is your primary resource to prepare for your initial registration window this summer. College Studies gives you the information and tools you need to start your academic career. It provides academic advising information so you can schedule and prepare for registration, and introduces key concepts of information literacy, like how to sift through information, figure out what is useful and reliable, and then responsibly shape that information to serve your goals. On June 23 you will be enrolled (through Blackboard) into College Studies.
Your Peer Student Advisor
A Peer Advisor is a student leader who works with the Office of Undergraduate Academic Affairs to assist you before and during registration. The Peer Advisor is an upper division student at W&M and can offer tips and strategies from an insider's point of view. Peer advisors will reach out to new students through email on June 23 when College Studies opens. They will review the draft schedule of courses you will create as part of College Studies and give you feedback ahead of your initial summer registration window.
Pre-Major Advisors - Available during Orientation
Once you arrive on campus for orientation, you will be assigned a Pre-Major Advisor and they will email you to introduce themselves and schedule a time for your orientation advising meeting. This faculty member will become your primary contact for academic and campus resource information. You will meet with your pre-major advisor during orientation, where you will discuss your plans for finalizing your fall schedule. You will continue to work with your pre-major advisor until you declare your major.
Pre-Professional Advisors - Available during Orientation
Pre-professional advisors can work with you to discuss the requirements related to specific professional tracks. These advisors supplement – but do not replace – the relationship you have with your pre-major advisor. Once you are on campus, you should email the appropriate professional advisor to learn about information on courses and experiences that can make you a competitive candidate when you apply to a professional school. Many pre-professional advisors also offer information sessions during orientation and throughout the academic year.
