Freshman Campus Housing

If you're an incoming spring semester freshman it all starts with your 2024-25 Housing Application. Submit your application via the On-Campus Housing Portal using your W&M credentials - and - make any special housing requests as soon as possible. Learn more about the process and get started today!

Transfer Campus Housing

ALL transfers are welcome to live on campus based on available space.

If the demand for on campus housing exceeds the available inventory, transfer student housing applicants who are not required to live on campus may be placed on the Housing Wait List and will not be guaranteed on campus housing.

We recommend that transfer students apply as soon as possible by completing the 2024-25 Housing application using your W&M credentials. Make sure to provide accurate contact information so that Residence Life can reach you over the winter break. We will begin emailing housing assignments to new spring student housing applicants beginning January 7, 2025. It is important to check your W&M email often for informational updates.

Community Engagement

Each residential area is viewed as a living-learning center with the goal of enriching each resident's educational experience. The residents in each area, in partnership with the Residence Life staff, develop community norms, guidelines, and expectations of one another to provide direction and make meaning of community in the residence halls, while allowing for both individual freedom and the privacy and personal rights of those community members. With the spirit and history of self-determination, our communities engage, connect and have fun while partaking in learning strategies such as community agreements, shared living expectations conversations, and community council engagement to exercise and develop an unique sense of self, and have clarity of beliefs, identity, and social relationships within the context of community. 

Housing Accommodations

If you require any housing-related accommodations due to a diagnosed disability, you must register with Student Accessibility Services. All requests and documentation for this type of housing accommodation must be submitted as soon as possible. Once SAS has received your completed registration and documentation information, you will be scheduled for their next available intake appointment. They will process requests submitted after the deadline as soon as possible, but approvals may be delayed due to housing availability and other factors. SAS will notify Residence Life if your accommodation is approved.

Gender-Inclusive Housing

Residence Life is committed to offering gender-inclusive housing options to ensure inclusive communities. Residence Life offers two options of housing preferences based on gender:

• Single-Gender Housing – having roommates/suitemates/apartment-mates who have the same sex listed in Banner
• Gender-Inclusive Housing – having roommates/suitemates/apartment-mates of any gender or gender expression/identity.

Two Year Live on Requirement

First year freshman students enrolled full time are required to live in on-campus housing during their first two (2) years following their high school graduation. The program will explore additional academic, social, and cultural living and learning communities for students in the third and fourth semesters at W&M. Learn more about this requirement now.
