529 Plans & Study Abroad
Pre-paid tuition or academically-focused investment accounts, such as state-level 529 programs, can often be used for financing your study abroad, but there can be state-specific regulations and potential restrictions on their use.
Contact the administrator for your 529 account or other such program during your initial program research process, to confirm which funds can be used, how they can be used, and with what reductions or penalties (if any) may occur when using it for your study abroad program. In some circumstances, there may be a reduced amount available for use on certain study abroad programs.
Make sure you understand the various types of programs and their billing processes
Note: William & Mary does not bill for tuition or program fees on behalf of third-party programs.
