Important Info for Loan Recipients

Plus Loan Borrowers

You may be eligible for a refund if an Undergraduate Plus loan proceeds exceed your total semester tuition, fees, and other costs. By law, without written permission from the parent, the Plus loan must be refunded to the parent. A refund check will be mailed to the parent's address if applicable.

The borrower can cancel all or a portion of the loan and have the proceeds returned to the lender. If the borrower wishes to cancel, they must notify the Financial Aid office at (757) 221-2420 within 14 days of disbursement.

Direct Loan Borrowers

You may be eligible for a refund if your federal Direct Loan proceeds are more than your total semester tuition, fees, and other costs. If applicable, a refund will be directly deposited to your bank account (beginning January 2013), or a check will be mailed to your local address or campus post office box.

You can cancel all or a portion of the loan and have the proceeds returned to the lender. To cancel, you must notify the Financial Aid office at (757) 221-2420 within 14 days from the disbursement date.

Alternative (Private) Loan Borrowers

You may be eligible for a refund if your student loan proceeds are more than your total semester tuition, fees, and other costs. When the student requests, a refund will be directly deposited (beginning January 2013) or a paper check mailed to your local address or your campus post office box.
