As the fall semester comes to a close, I thought it would be helpful to provide an update on the College’s diversity efforts in facilitating and supporting diversity and inclusion. As you read this issue of VOICES, you can see the good work of academic and administrative departments, students, affinity groups, and more.
Nominations
We highlight 10 individuals who have been selected for recognition by W&M community members for their leadership in fostering diversity on campus. Nominations can be submitted online each month.
Highlights
- Implementation of on-line training for Preventing Workplace Discrimination, Harassment, and Retaliation
- Development of new tagline for position announcements
- WMSURE hosted African American Educator’s Workshop
- Addition of Single-Occupancy restrooms (at least one per building)
- John Elder Robinson, Neurodiversity Advocate, is hired as Scholar-in-Residence
- W&M hosted successful Supplier Diversity Conference in July
- Faculty Assembly unanimously passes Resolution on Domestic Partner Benefits
- Class of 2017 was very diverse--32% students from historically underrepresented groups
- Women’s Studies is renamed Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies
