Mia Cherry
A current Junior at The College of William and Mary, Amelia (Mia) is working towards a B.A. in Government with a minor in Psychology. Her decision to major in government was heavily influenced by her life as a military child, having lived in several places while developing a love for different cultures and ways of life. Amelia's father is an active duty member of the United States Air Force, her mother is an elementary school teacher and her sister is a junior in high school. She is a member of the William and Mary Varsity Field Hockey Team, to which she devotes most of her time, spending the majority of her summer breaks coaching at various collegiate and high school level field hockey camps. Amelia also enjoys volunteering for numerous organizations such as the Avalon Women's Shelter, Beyond Boobs, and Waters Edge Community Church. She is looking forward to her first internship, especially the chance to work with a non-profit organization in Washington, D.C. Through this experience she hopes to learn first-hand how the government works alongside non-profit organizations, promoting much needed changes in the world.
Colin Danly
Colin Danly was born in San Francisco, but he spent the majority of his childhood just outside of Chicago. Colin is a sophomore at the college and hopes to graduate with a major in government and a minor in history. Colin is a news junkie and someday he wants to help revolutionize the education system. On campus, Colin is a Senator in the student assembly, an Orientation Aide Director (OAD), a member of the peer leadership team TRAIN, the Student Leadership Foundation, and the fraternity Beta Theta Pi. In his free time, Colin loves to read, volunteer, watch baseball and spend time with friends.
Jonah Fishel
Jonah is 18 years old and a freshman at the College. Though he's spent most of his life in the suburbs of Northern Virginia, he feels most at home in big cities and on the high seas. Jonah hasn't yet decided on his major and has been told he is an "advising nightmare", but this has not inspired him to be any more decisive about what his interests actually are. He expects to self-design at least one major, probably a combination of government, sociology, religious studies, and women's studies, though he could barely decide on those. When he grows up, Jonah hopes to lead a non-profit organization dedicated to eliminating human trafficking in the Western world, train as a paramedic, be knighted, write incomprehensible novels, own a forge, record a platinum-selling album, and possibly become Batman. On campus, Jonah is involved in the Gentlemen of the College a capella group, 1in4 sexual assault survivors advocacy group, and student government. In his spare time, Jonah writes poor poetry, enjoys comic books, and doesn't talk to girls.
Alexis Foxworth
Alexis B. Foxworth is a sophomore at the College from Virginia Beach, Virginia. Her focus of study is on Social Justice and Advocacy, a self-designed major. With this major, she hopes to look at the intersection of Government and Sociology. For the future, Alexis has dreams of attending law school and becoming a civil rights attorney. Her ultimate goal is to become an appellate court judge. On campus, Alexis is usually busy executing the responsibilities as Vice-President of the Pre-Law Division of the Black Law Student's Association and community liaison for the Students for Criminal Justice Reform. In the community, she is an intern at the National Center for State Courts. Alexis has also had the pleasure of being a PLUS (Preparing for Life as a University Student) Counselor the summer of her freshman year, speaking to prospective students for the admissions office, and introducing Dr. Cornel West at the Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration Program. In her spare time, Alexis enjoys being a big sister to her three younger brothers, a seven year-old and twins that are five . Reading and public speaking are also her pastimes.
Maryam Kanna
Maryam Kanna is a junior majoring in Economics and Government. On campus, she works as a study abroad peer advisor at the Reves Center for International Studies and as a research assistant for the Schroeder Center for Health Policy. Maryam also sings with the William & Mary Choir and the Middle Eastern Music Ensemble. She lived in the Middle East when she was younger and has studied abroad in France. Thanks to the opportunities she's had to travel, she is interested in a career in international development and human rights in the developing world. She is also passionate about Middle Eastern politics and the Arab Diaspora, having conducted her upperclassman Monroe project on socioeconomic differences in the Middle Eastern community of metropolitan Detroit. She hopes to teach or volunteer abroad after graduation, and would like to work for one or two years before pursuing graduate studies in International Relations or International Education Policy.
Margaret Lobeck
Margaret Lobeck, originally from Minneapolis, Minnesota, is currently a sophomore at the College double majoring in Literary and Cultural Studies and Elementary Education with an endorsement in ESL. With a strong passion for kids and education, she dreams to someday be a middle school teacher and hopes DCSI will give her a better perspective on the many issues public education faces. Margaret is actively a member of Tribe Ambassadors, Student Alumni Council, the social sorority Kappa Kappa Gamma, and has been a cellist for the past 13 years. She also looks forward to her upcoming trip in January to Tanzania with the student run organization AIDSTanzania educating about women’s health and the prevention of HIV/AIDS. In addition, Margaret is the student marketer for MAD About Chocolate, participates in Big Brothers Big Sisters, and volunteers once a week with Dream Catchers-a therapeutic riding center for children as well as adults who have disabilities. She is majoring in English and Government and is involved on campus with the DoG Street Journal, the Young Democrats, and the service fraternity Alpha Phi Omega. Throughout her time in college, Molly has developed an interest in the problem of educational inequality. She has used relevant course assignments and research opportunities over the years to explore the potential that preschool offers for closing the achievement gap. Because of her belief in education's power to combat poverty and inequality, Molly hopes to pursue a career in the area of education policy and research.

Elizabeth is from Orange County, California, and is a sophomore transfer student from Wellesley College. She is a Government major with a particular interest in American Politics and wants to practice Constitutional Law (ideally on a tropical island somewhere…). She also is very interested in the German language and is hoping to study abroad in either Berlin or Vienna in the fall of 2013. Elizabeth is an active member of her sorority, Pi Beta Phi, and enjoys sleeping, playing with puppies, and watching copious amounts of 30 Rock in her free time.
David Wasserstein
David Wasserstein, a native of the Philadelphia suburbs in Southern New Jersey, is a History and Government major at the College. Interested in both American History and Government, William and Mary has given David the opportunity to pursue both passions; American History and Government. At the College David is involved with the William and Mary Rowing Team, Kappa Delta Rho fraternity, the Student Assembly, and Campus Kitchens. Outside of school, David enjoys keeping up with the news, reading historical non-fiction, golfing, and watching movies. Having been to Israel twice in the last year, David hopes to make another trip after graduation, perhaps teaching English for a year. At the DC Summer Institute David hopes to take advantage of living in DC for the summer while working with domestic policy and gaining a deeper understanding of grass-roots advocacy.
Drew Wilke
A sophomore at the College, Drew Wilke is a double major in Government and Business. He plans on starting the Business School block next fall. Although he considers himself politically moderate, Drew is fascinated by political campaign strategy and structure. He is looking forward to learning more about politics and its impact on our communities and ultimately the world we live in. As a New Jersey native, Drew is part of the seemingly large coalition of jersey people at W&M. On campus, he is involved in the Student Assembly as a senator for the class of 2015. Currently he is the chair for the Student Life committee. Drew is actively involved in his fraternity Kappa Sigma, and volunteers at Admissions as a Tribe Ambassador. During his free time, Drew spends a lot of time adjusting his fantasy football lineup, along with playing tennis, and hanging out with friends. This past summer, Drew worked at a local music store assisting with customer service. He also spent a month studying abroad in Galway, Ireland, and hopes to study in Spain for a semester his Junior year.
