Washington Center Land Acknowledgement
The William & Mary Washington Center acknowledges the Indigenous peoples who are the original inhabitants of the lands on which we are located today – lands of the Anacostans or Nacotchtank peoples, the neighboring Piscataway peoples and the nearby Patawomeck, Rappahannock and Monacan Indian Tribes. We gratefully acknowledge these many Native Peoples on whose ancestral homelands we gather, as well as the diverse and vibrant Native communities who make their home here today – and pay our respect to their tribal members past and present.
The practice of Land Acknowledgement represents a commitment to a culture of inclusion that begins with recognizing the Indigenous peoples of our region.
