Therapeutic Recreation
Ground yourself in a healing weekend.
The Haven partners with Tribe Adventure Program (TAP) to offer a therapeutic recreation trip specifically for survivors of sexual assault. The Haven offers options for students who have experienced trauma to engage with alternative supports that can foster healing and connection. In addition to traditional therapy, opportunities that are movement-based, nature-based, art-based, and recreational are another avenue for survivors of trauma to connect to themselves and others, and feel more grounded.
The Recreational Therapy trip usually consists of camping, hiking, canoeing, and enjoying a camp fire. There is no expectation to discuss or disclose your own personal story. The trip is led by trained recreation staff and staff of The Haven. There is a required informational session that all participants must attend prior to the trip. Participation is limited to 6 students, so sign-up is first-come, first-serve.
All are welcome on this trip. Participants may have diverse gender identities and/or expressions, including the staff who will be leading the trip from TAP and The Haven. It’s important you are comfortable with male-identified, female-identified, and gender non-conforming identified participants and staff.
