Register to Vote Students have a decision about where to register to vote. You have a right to register to vote at the address you consider the place where you live, whether that is your family’s home or the place where you attend school. You should update your registration anytime this home address changes, including when you move to new on-campus housing or off-campus. You may only be registered and vote in one location. (Source: Fair Elections Center) You may register to vote online in Virginia or in your home state, if not Virginia. The Voter Engagement Committee has partnered with the City of Williamsburg Voter Registrar, James City County Voter Registrar, and the League of Women Voters to provide nonpartisan on-campus voter registration and opportunities to update your voter record.
On-Campus Voter Registration Opportunities August 23, 10 am - 2 pm: Sadler Center atrium August 26, 11 am - 4 pm: Sadler Center atrium September 3, 11 am – 1:30 pm: Volunteer and Civic Engagement Fair, Sadler Center atrium September 10, 10 am – 2 pm: School of Law September 17, 11 am – 1:30 pm, 4 – 6:30 pm: National Voter Registration Day, Sadler Center terrace (Rain location: Sadler Center atrium) September 24, 5 – 8:30 pm: Swem Library lobby September 25, 5 – 8:30 pm: Swem Library lobby September 26 and 27, 11 am – 1:30 pm: Sadler Center atrium September 27, 11 am – 1:30 pm: Sadler Center atrium September 30, 5 – 8:30 pm: Swem Library lobby October 14, 11 am – 1:30 pm: Sadler Center Lobby October 14, 5 – 8:30 pm: Swem Library lobby The deadline to register to vote to avoid provisional ballot status on election day is October 15 at 5 pm. You may register after this date, through Election Day, and vote using a provisional ballot (PDF).
Vote Early Voting early allows you to choose a convenient time for you, and it’s often less crowded than Election Day – which helps you and those who are working at the polls. In-person voting begins September 20 at all Virginia voting locations. Be sure to check your registration status in advance, and bring an approved form of ID. If you’re registered to vote in the City of Williamsburg, bring some friends and walk or drive to the Registrar’s Office at 401 Lafayette Street – an eight-minute walk from Sadler Center. October 29 is National Vote Early Day November 2 is the last day to vote early. Office closes at 5 pm.
Vote Absentee by Mail You may apply to vote absentee by mail in Virginia. October 25 is the last day to apply for an absentee ballot. If you are registered outside of Virginia, check your state’s regulations.
Vote on Election Day, November 5 November 5 is your last chance to vote in the 2024 election. If you have not yet registered to vote, you can participate in Same Day Voter Registration and vote with a provisional ballot, which will be counted after confirming your eligibility to register. Registering before October 15 and voting early will help you avoid the potential of longer lines and ensure your ballot is counted right away.

In the 2024 Virginia elections, you can elect officials for the U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives, and for President. You may also participate in special State Legislature elections, municipal government elections, and decide on ballot measures.
