For Students
Through community-capacity internships, Civic & Community Engagement fosters students civic and career skills as they complete capacity-building projects designed and supervised by the local community organizations.
How does it work?Students apply to available internships via W&M GivePulse, and the top candidate is selected by the community supervisor. W&M Civic & Community Engagement provides that student payment equal to $15/hr for completion of the internship. As students complete their internships, they receive supervision and support from their community partners and report and reflect on their civic and career development. |
Who is eligible? All full-time William & Mary students are eligible to apply for a community-capacity internship. There is no limit to the number of internships a student can apply for, however, if a student has served as a community-capacity intern, they are not eligible for additional positions. |
What's expected of the interns? Each internship is different, all though all feature a capacity-building project with a tangible outcome that will serve the organization after the intern has left and that the intern can point to as a product of their efforts. Examples include marketing material, data analysis, program recommendations, a presentation or training module, but there have been many creative capacity products. Broadly, we intend for interns to:

How do interns report and reflect on the experience?Interns will submit four impact reports during their internship. They are responsible for tracking their hours between impact reports and submitting the total hours in each report. Each report also includes required reflection questions, detailed on W&M GivePulse. |
