Digest redesigned based on faculty, staff feedback
William & Mary faculty and staff will soon see an updated version of the W&M Digest, designed with their thoughts and preferences in mind.
The daily internal email, which was initially redesigned in January, will still include user-submitted announcements and links to W&M News articles. However, the new design will feature a highlighted top section for administrative announcements and a reorganized format for existing content.
Staff members from University Relations and Creative Services have been working together on the project since last year. The first phase of the project resulted in a new design that was launched in January. That initial design included the addition of W&M News stories, events from the university calendar and links within the email for easier navigation.
Throughout the spring semester, members of the project team met with faculty, staff and professionals across the campus to garner feedback on the redesign. They also solicited feedback via a survey, which received more than 400 responses.
Based on that feedback, the designers opted to move the index of user-submitted announcements to the top of the digest, where the listing will once again be numbered, as it was in the original digest format. A highlighted section will include topics such as: parking notifications, system alerts, university policies and procedures, benefit management, and public safety and security.
W&M News headlines have been moved to a column on the right side of the email. Under those headlines, “button” links to the university events system and the news video webpage have been added.
A third phase of the redesign project will look at possibly creating a web component for the digest.
