About the Program
Philosophy students engage the deepest questions about who we are and how we should live, preparing them to lead reflective and purposive lives. They also learn to develop arguments, think critically and logically, communicate clearly and write succinctly. Many W&M students double major or include a minor in their studies. A philosophy major usually complements the sciences and math, English, history, government and psychology.

Eminent scholars come to campus to give presentations on topics of philosophical and interdisciplinary interests.

Annual research conference
The Annual William & Mary Undergraduate Philosophy Conference is a one- or two-day event where students share and receive feedback on papers and learn from a guest philosopher.

Personal Education
Many seminar-style courses are offered each semester where students can receive detailed feedback on papers and other assignments from faculty.

Setting up the future
Philosophy majors perform in the top 5-10% on graduate school entrance exams like the LSAT, GRE and GMAT.

Outcomes
Training in critical thinking, logic and analytical writing is highly valuable to prospective employers. W&M alumni pursue graduate study in philosophy and various other academic fields and enter professions such as law and nonprofit management, where training in philosophical analysis is particularly advantageous.
