About the Program

Neuroscience provides a comprehensive and rigorous exploration of the nervous system, examining the functions of molecules, cells and networks as they contribute to the development of complete behavioral and cognitive functions. This field encompasses multiple levels of biological organization ranging from molecular mechanisms of cellular physiology to complex behavior and cognitive processing. At W&M, you will master fundamental concepts through coursework in several departments and then fine-tune your interests through advanced courses such as applied cellular neuroscience, molecular neuroscience and psychopharmacology.

Path of Study

What Makes Us Different

Neuroscience is interdisciplinary with affiliated faculty drawn from six departments:

Biology
Chemistry
Kinesiology
Mathematics
Psychology

Applied Learning

Hear from a Student

"I decided to declare myself a neuroscience major because the brain is the one thing that keeps my coming back for more. I also liked being able to dabble in biology, chemistry and psychology all at the same time. I've loved being able to learn about all the amazing things we can do, conscious and unconsciously." — Amber Cantu '24 neuroscience major and chemistry minor from Northern Virginia.

Commencement

Outcomes
