Internship Expectations
Students receiving funding under the Fellowship Program must meet several requirements:.
- Work either remotely or in-person at some point between the dates of May 15 - August 23, 2024. Internships that are full-time for seven weeks with one employer (280 hours or more) are strongly preferred, and students will be considered for full award amounts. Internships that are less than 280 total hours with one employer will be considered for a partial, pro-rated award amount. Our funding cannot be applied retroactively toward any internship hours that were completed prior to May 15, 2024.
- Complete an evaluation reflecting on the internship’s impact on your academic and career goals. (Deadline: Friday, August 23, 2024)
- Have your internship supervisor submit an evaluation of your performance including verification of the hours you worked between May 15 - August 23, 2024, to Elaine McBeth (mcbeth@wm.edu; 221-2386). (Deadline: Friday, August 23, 2024)
- Submit one 400-word reflective essay on your experience, including a photograph and short biography of yourself at the conclusion of your internship. Essays may be considered for publication on the Public Policy and/or Schroeder Center websites. A one minute video of the internship may be substituted for the essay if desired. All essays and videos should be sent to Elaine McBeth (mcbeth@wm.edu; 221-2386). (Deadline: Friday, August 23, 2024)
- Attend an informational meeting where other students will learn about the Public Policy/Schroeder Center Fellowship Program. (Deadline: TBD)
The internship is considered incomplete if all these expectations are not met or if the internship is cancelled after the awarding of money, and students will be expected to repay all funds awarded. If you have any questions, please contact Elaine McBeth (mcbeth@wm.edu; 221-2386).
