Combined Degree Programs

We offer combined degree programs with a number of different graduate programs at W&M. Combined degree programs allow students to complete two graduate degrees concurrently in less time than would be required to complete each degree separately.

Combined Degree in Law and Public Policy

A combined law and public policy program is available in which the student may obtain both a master's degree (M.P.P.) and a J.D. degree in four years, instead of the five years that would be required if each degree were pursued separately. Candidates interested in this combined degree program must apply to and gain acceptance by both the School of Law and W&M Public Policy.   Note: If first accepted by the Law School, LSAT scores may be used in lieu of GRE scores when applying to the Public Policy Program.

Combined Degree in Business and Public Policy

A combined business administration and public policy program is available in which the student may obtain both a Master of Business Administration degree and a Master of Public Policy degree in three years, instead of the four years that would be required if each were pursued separately. Candidates interested in this combined degree program must apply to and gain acceptance by both the Graduate School of Business Administration and W&M Public Policy. Note: If first accepted by the Business School, GMAT scores may be used in lieu of GRE scores when applying to the Public Policy Program.

Combined Degree in Education and Public Policy

A combined educational leadership and public policy program is available in which the student may obtain both an M.Ed. and an M.P.P. degree in three years, instead of the four years that would be required if each were pursued separately. Candidates interested in this combined degree program must apply to and gain acceptance by both the Graduate School of Education and the W&M Public Policy.  A combined educational leadership and public policy program is available in which the student may obtain both a Ph.D. and an M.P.P. degree in five years, instead of the six years that would be required if each were pursued separately. Candidates interested in this combined degree program must apply to and gain acceptance by both the Graduate School of Education and W&M Public Policy.

Combined Degree in Marine Science and Public Policy

A combined marine science and public policy program is available in which the student may obtain an M.A., M.S., or Ph.D. in Marine Science and an M.P.P. degree. Candidates interested in this concurrent degree program must apply to and gain acceptance by both the School of Marine Science and W&M Public Policy.

Combined Degree in Computational Operations Research and Public Policy

A combined computational operations research and public policy program is available in which the student may obtain both an M.S. in CSCI with COR concentrations and an M.P.P. degree in three years, instead of the four that would be required if each degree were pursued separately. Candidates interested in this concurrent degree program must apply to and gain acceptance by both the Department of Computer Science and W&M Public Policy.

The Accelerated Master of Public Policy Degree

W&M Public Policy offers an option whereby a small number of current W&M undergraduates will be able to earn both a Bachelor's degree and a Master of Public Policy degree in a total of five years of coursework.  They will undertake a collaborative research project with a faculty supervisor in the summer following the junior year, and will be supported with a mix of tuition waivers, tuition reductions and research assistantships during the fifth year, when only MPP courses will be taken.  Exceptionally qualified students may be named Trice Fellows, and receive full tuition remission and generous stipend support for their postgraduate year in the program.
