Dear Alumni of the William and Mary Psychology Department,
Season’s Greetings!
It is hard for us to believe that we are in the final week of classes of the semester. It has been a busy and productive fall in the Psychology Department.
Homecoming 2012 Pictures
One of the highlights of the semester was our Homecoming celebrations held at the end of October with Dr. David Uttal (Class of 1983) giving our alumni talk. This year we held our reception in the SWEM library Bright Gallery to show off “ Open Minds” ; an exhibit displaying the many accomplishments of the Psychology faculty. This exhibit will be dismantled in January after being displayed for almost 9 months. For those of you who were unable to make it, check out the fun collection of pictures from our Homecoming events. Perhaps you will see a few people you recognize from the past!
The Polish Connection
In each newsletter, we like to highlight the current professional activities of at least one faculty member. This time we are including a story about John Nezlek who has been a faculty member in our Department since 1977; perhaps some of you remember taking his Introductory Psychology course. Dr. Nezlek is actively involved in cross cultural research, with his latest research endeavors taking him to Poland.
W&M receives grant to provide testing, support to incarcerated pregnant women
We also wish to congratulate Professors Danielle Dallaire and Catherine Forestell on their recent grant awarded by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation to support the Healthy Beginnings Project. This project involves teaching pregnant, incarcerated women about improving their health-related behaviors and connecting with appropriate resources to improve birth outcomes. You can learn more about this project by visiting their new website which goes live on Friday.
Finally, we very much appreciate the gifts that alumni make to the Psychology Department. Your gifts are used to support undergraduate and graduate student research and travel to conferences to present their findings. Without your support, these important opportunities would not exist for our students. We hope that you will continue to support these efforts in the coming year.
